Golden Jubilee and Twinning Weekend

Potterne rifle club and the shooting range at the George and Dragon public house played host to friendly competitions between the hosts and guests from both Mayenne France and Waiblingen Germany during the Devizes and district twinning association official twinning weekend.

The fun packed weekend started Friday night as guest arrived in Devizes. They were then taken to for food and a social evening at Bromham.

Saturday started with a visit to Devizes market and shops. At 11:00am the first shooting competition started between all twinning participants in the George and Dragon Potterne.
This involved 16 shooters and was followed up with real ale and a tasty hot lunch supplied by landlord Gibson.
The afternoon saw a trip to the Marston Jubilee fete where we were treated to cream teas and entertainment.
The evening was sponsored by local businesses that provided a good buffet supper in the corn exchange. There was dancing into the early hours to the twin town's bands, and a disco downstairs for the younger amongst us

Sunday started with the second stage of the shooting competition at Redhorn Hill. This was by kind invitation of Chas from Urchfont Clay Pigeon Club who setup a private shoot for us.
The final event was for all to meet again at the George and Dragon Potterne for a game of skittles, supper and presentation to the winners who were:

Gold medal - Michel Royer (France)
Sliver medal - Samuel Bouchet (France) aged 14
Mayenne shooting club president Jacque Hamelin presented Bob Luke with a gift picture which is now hanging in the George and Dragon, a picture of the presentation can be seen below. Invitations from Thomas Freudl to visits Waiblingen next year were accepted by both the English and the French.
