Notes of meeting held by Potterne Parish Council on Wednesday, 9th April 2003

As this was the last meeting of the present Council, the Chairman thanked Councillors for their efforts over the past four years and pointed out that there had only been nine nominations for eleven places on the new Council. Therefore there will be no Parish election this time.

The Council is enquiring about the possibility of using Care Rowde to undertake some regular litter picking and weed clearing around the village. Mr Hobbs has offered to act as the co-ordinator on behalf of the Council.

Following a letter from a resident in Whistley Road and Wiltshire Highways Partnerships subsequent reply the Parish Council are writing in support of the resident requesting kerbstones to be placed along some sections of Whistley Road. Vehicles passing at narrow points cause problems of subsidence to the stream bank .

The Clerk has written to Diocesan Registry in Salisbury asking for their assistance in ascertaining ownership of the bank along the A360. The land in question keeps slipping onto the footpath and as they were the original owners of the land it is hoped they can help provide evidence of ownership.

The state of the footpath from Silver Street to Coxhill Lane is still in need of litter picking and clearing. The Clerk will contact both Kennet and Wiltshire County Council again asking for their assistance to clear this area.

The Parish Council will write to Wiltshire County Council asking if they would consider placing flashing signs warning of on coming traffic on Church corner, similar to those in West Lavington.

The Rights of Way Warden, Mrs Esther Daly, and her team have been carrying out considerable work in the Five Lanes area to improve the bridleways and footpaths. Ditches have been cleaned and muddy areas stoned and levelled. Local contractors had been used to help with this work.

A quotation for the cleaning of the war memorial has been received from Wessex memorials and another quotation from Longs is still awaited. It is hoped to carry out this work before the autumn.

A letter of thanks is to be sent to the four gardening club members who came to help Councillors in their efforts at a general clean up of the cemetery before the new contractors took over the maintenance contract. It is hoped to organise another evening working party in June.
